I wonder sometimes if I am on a Hero's Journey. This course so far has forced me to ask myself some hard and thought provoking questions. I have had to evaluate what I want in life. What will I do to get what I want. Up until this point I have been a mother. That is not an easy job. It is the job I I always wanted. Recently I have had a desire to be more. I want to learn more, do more and have more, or do I? To a certain extent all of these questions have made me a little depressed and lost. Finally during the video "A Hero's Journey" I started to realized that I was on a Hero's Journey. When I asked myself the most important questions I was finally pleased with my answers.
Question 1: Have I contributed something meaningful? I have dedicated my entire life to raising five wonderful children. The first one is about to leave the nest and head out on his own. He is a wonderful person and ready to make changes to the world that only he can make. My other children are also following closely on his heels. This is the most meaningful contribution I could have ever made.
Question 2: Am I a good person? Without bragging or pride I can honestly say yes. I strive to follow God's plan for me. I try to be a good citizen, wife, daughter, mother, friend, sister neighbor, or even stranger along the road. I want to serve others. I do plenty of things wrong and have a lot to work on, but I know where my heart is.
Question 3: Who did I love, and who loved me? First and foremost I love my husband and kids. I have sacrificed 18 years for them. I have loved my extended family. I do whatever I can to make sure they know that. I love my friends, neighbors and even strangers. I believe that my family loves me back. I also believe that my friends love me back. There are those that don't but I can't control them.
After answering all of these questions I feel much better about my path in life and the future path in front of me. If these are the MOST important questions, and I can answer them all in the affirmative, then I must have made some right choices. That raises my confidence that I can make good choices in my future when it comes to my education, future jobs, and future family commitments. I was grateful for this lesson and look forward to future lessons to continue to learn more about myself, grow stronger, and develop the knowledge and skills I will need to be successful in the endeavors I join in.
